WHAT IS FASTING?

It is abstaining from food, drink, or other items for a period of time in order to spend concentrated time praying and seeking the Lord.  According to the Bible, there are three duties of every Christian: give, pray and fast. Fasting takes a lot of discipline and strength – strength which you can only receive from God. Ultimately, fasting is meant to draw us closer to God, not to impress others or prove our devotion.

A PASTORAL NOTE

As a church family, we sense the Holy Spirit inviting us to set aside intentional time to seek the Lord together for clarity, repentance, renewal, and direction. This is an invitation, not a requirement. Each person is encouraged to prayerfully seek the Lord and respond as He leads, choosing the type of fast that feels both obedient and appropriate.

What matters most is not the length or the form of the fast, but the posture of our hearts, marked by humility, attentiveness, and obedience.

As we fast, may we turn our hearts fully toward God, repenting where needed, listening carefully, praying earnestly, and trusting Him completely. May this be a sacred moment of realignment, as we draw near to His presence, His purposes, and His power.

Keep in mind:

  • Fasting is voluntary and Spirit-led

  • Not all fasts look the same. Obedience matters more than intensity

  • Health and medical wisdom should always be honored

  • Fasting should be paired with prayer, Scripture, repentance, and generosity
